all right as we get ready for scheduling here class of 2024 my name is mr. Nicholson online one of the school counselors at the high school mrs. Freeman the other school counselor she is currently on the but mrs.  is her substitute until the beginning of May so this year I scheduling is going to be a little bit different last year we came in to your social studies class with mr. mopps in chalk this year because of the pandemic we are going to be streaming videos may we have a Google classroom for your Google Classroom We Have a scheduling component and they'll be lots of tools and materials there for you to assist you in the scheduling process but today I'm going to present the video which was pretty much the classroom presentation I gave to you last year so please any questions you can email myself or Mrs at this time to answering your questions and you can see on your screen it is the class of 2024 presentation slide number to remember that everything is in our trip planning guide as far as price Fisher requirements scheduling process every class that we have here at the high school is the listed in the curriculum planning guide so that is here and I'm actually going to show you real quick I'm tricking and planning guide is going to be in your Google classroom and it is 108 pages and if you can remember from last year I'm going to go to the program or the table of contents goes over the graduation class requirements over the scheduling process and then there's going to be some career components in here starting right here for career Readiness indicators which I'm going to talk about building a career plan selecting career pathway raising an elective courses to go with your career Pathways types of Education but see all the PA works. I'll go over that a little bit in the slide and trying to think what else and again recommended score sequences will be on page 51 and the course descriptions for each class will be following there and then we actually end with the Career & Technology Center that's the curriculum planning guide again it's for it's a pretty big book 108 pages but it does has it have everything that you need to know about the high school so continue on with my presentation like last year you're actually going to get a scheduling for your for is going to be blue in the folder is going to be your course selection sheet so last year what happened do you actually want around to your teachers and then they find your papers this year your teachers have already chosen or selected the recommendations for your math English social studies and science then you also have a physical Edge so that's going to be on your individual ice sheet on the back of that she is going to be where you can look and see what electives we have to offer this coming year the 2021-22 school year more about that also in your folder is going to be some instructions because everything that I'm talking about right now is going to be in your Google Classroom so they'll be a little sheet here that just talks about your freshman year I currently in your course code if you need that and then it's also going to have a my scheduling form which we also had in there last year thanks to those are the things that things are blue for which will be handed out we're not sure yet if that's going to be ordering your English class that you typically do at your level so but you will be getting that I believe either Wednesday or Thursday of this week so this last week here in February and in the scheduling folder again that was everything that I reviewed in your scheduling for the next slide talks about the Google classroom and we do have it broken down and I will show you here in a little bit but we have the presentation we have the forms which is the your selection sheet and also if you're thinking of going to the ewctc as a sophomore that is in there as well and then some additional tools such as its presentation so you can go look at it at any time over the weekend in the evenings I'm a review it with your family the curriculum planning guide which I talked about my schedule electives ew CT School course descriptions in the ewctc is actually going to make videos for each other I'm because I like in previous years we used to take the 9th graders on a tour of the CTC that usually happened in early February due to the pandemic the CDC is not having visitors so we are going do rctc tours via these videos and then there will be a component where you actually have to fill out a survey in and talk about some of the things that you've learned so that will be coming and we will share more information with that I'm with you as a guy one thing I do all in our our slides and I put up here in the right hand column top right-hand call and cpg which stands for Kirkland planning guide and the number 6 that is Page 6 that's where you can find some information which I talked about on the slot as we shared with you last year to graduate from Derry Area High School you need 25 and a half credits that would be for English classes for social studies credits 3 size credits 3 math credits and then you need an additional math or science credit some students will have more than this so this is the minimum i n word to graduate from Derry high school health class everyone will have a half a credit of Health tip believe that is your junior year unless you rctc that is your senior year physical education 1 Credit is needed .25 credits per year each semester at the high school you how will have CTC unless you are you will have physical education unless you rctc that could change and we'll share that with you but if you are here on and on CTC student you will have eight semesters of physical education and need to pass your experiencing your education classes this year with Misses Prado in the Schnucks are so those classes need pass and we'll give you one credit featuring Career Success and computer and career Essentials those are half a semester or or a semester half a credit card those will be coming your senior year I'll remember you need a Humanities which is an art or music that has a half a credit so that can be taken while maybe you're getting that out of the way or taking that hear your freshman year but you can also take out your saw or junior senior year just as long as you graduate we need to make sure that on your transcript do they have to try it on our Core Music and then you can see elective courses 5 and 1/2 additional courses and then the Keystone exams still waiting to hear back on those I'm at Summit last year those worth sort of eliminated for you guys as far as waivers so we'll see what happens this year for some of you students may be in algebra biology only made it need that to look at overall 25 1/2 credits needed for graduation the next slide talks about credit Loudoun achievement that can be found on page 7 of the curriculum planning guide you can see in order to be go from turn to sophomore status you need 5.51 credits or more typically on a freshman schedule there are 6.25 credits on the schedule so if you passed your classes you should be in good shape to be considered a sophomore a class has failed you will not fail the whole year but you will have to recover the credit for that class so say you fell biology we don't fail you again for the whole year if you passed all your other classes it would just be the biology class that needs to be that could be done over the summer via Credit Recovery or OB Place back in your schedule most intellect to do it over the summer so they're not falling behind another course works that is cray recovery their transcript and I'm sure it's very hard for you to see on my on my slide here but typically what we just wanted to show you is that English English 101 your signs your histories I can all be seen here freshman year and we go into your sophomore year we can see the classes that you need and then your junior year and Senior yourself what will your transcript does is actually totals all your your credits and the grades and your GPA in your class rank so that can all be found on your transcript as you every year myself and mrs. Freeman do review your transcript just to make sure you're on track I mean if there are any cans country would be contacting you and your parent to discuss our plans to take to get caught up but we will review this with you every year just wanted to show you that so you know how we do credits I remember the key the service is also a requirement for graduation at Derry area high school that can be found on page six class of 24 currently need 7.25 hours so this year it was waived so freshman year we are actually you do not need any usually break down the 10 hours of community service by for years so that's where we get 2.5 hours so when you look at the three years remaining that's how we get to your 7.25 nerve or hours so you will need some hours to talk to you more hopefully the pandemic goes away here early subsides that we can get out in the community and start doing some some social and community community in and things like that some services career Readiness indicators we talked to you last year and I know mrs. tatone over at the middle school has work with you to get Curie artifacts but at the high school I'm on page 17 of the creek in Clinton County also talk about career Readiness indicators state of Pennsylvania by the end of the 11th grade year once you to have eight artifacts in the high school that are career-related so when I go to the next you can see and mrs. Pratt has class there is one artifact in Miss smelters class there will be an artifact and because we're not doing the Evo ewctc tours on site we're actually have you play the videos and actually I'm answer some questions on a Google form and by doing that you actually have three indicators for your ninth-grade year 10th grade we have the ASVAB with Jason. test that measures your aptitude in verbal Math and Science and Technology it's not a pass or fail test it just shows you your strength within those areas and then based on that we can show you some careers that may be good based on your attitude and then we have a part 2 to the a side which is an interest inventory so it asked you the things you might like to do or find enjoyable and then from there and actually shows you careers that maybe Adventure to you based on that information and then an 11th grade we have your career research project which is a paper that you do in English and then there is the WCC WCC ECCC Community College andreotti Fair sit down there you actually take a tour of the campus and then we do a reality Fair based on income and some paying some bills and things like that we're not doing that this year so we'll hope to Hannah by the time you guys are 11th graders will have that back into our plans as far as career Readiness and then there also an English has an entrepreneurship piece so you can see we have things line-out were you but we also have some other things like to rear speakers we may have in we have college reps in and talk about colleges career Saturday's business this military PSAT Winchester testing kits you ready for car I meant receives and which are the SAT and ACT if you are going to BCTC there are artifacts there that you can compile I'm also community service we can write the reflection and then meeting with your school conference so there's a lot of things in there so you shouldn't stress out about trying to get these eight artifacts we do have them for you and ready to go it's just you have to complete those all right so the scheduling process similar to what happened last year you're going to again like I said get your blue folder okay the curriculum planning guide is online and that'll be in your Google Classroom as well as your course selection sheet you'll get a hard copy of course selection sheet which has your elect are your core classes and then your elective classes I'm going to show you here at the elective courses and complete then once you've completed your core election CNN CNN and submitted that online the concert were you that in look for any errors and contact you if we see any eventually then the school concert will do the scheduling process and then it may we will distribute sketch close to you why should we did not have a move up day and we hope to have it again it's typically our last day of school so hopefully we'll see if we can have a move up Day this year to get you ready for your 10th grade year if you look on page 29-32 of the curriculum planning guy that talks about the career Pathways so I'm actually going to switch over real quick here and you are down a few pages and see if I can locate that for you playing God right so so here on page 23 we actually start talking about the pathways the first one is hard to communicate so if any of these things interest you that means you probably would have a strong interest in do well to find a career which then is listed here I'm broken down by entry level jobs are on the job training technical or skilled labor jobs which are one. years of training you can see those and then your professional careers which are for two for four or more years of training on at the college level and then on the next page of the Arts and Communications we list the core classes available and the elective courses available by grade level that would help you with in the career pathway of arts and Communications building that strong Foundation to get you ready for Life After High School then we have a business and financing for technology same thing kind of review that to see Navy what areas you're interested in things that you feel that you can do skill-wise and think you like to enjoy entry level jobs technical professional within business and then we have the elective courses by grade level available to help you with your business same can be said for engineering engineering electives Human Services we have a human services elective and then the last one is our health science and health careers and then the courses here at the high school to help you with that so that's a little bit in there will be questioning your course selection that is going to ask you to identify some Pathways you might be interested in so please do that I'm also in our curriculum planning guide as we discuss the talks a little bit of hot post-secondary vacation pretty much every career that you need to find outside of high school is going to have some type of training that could be on the job training which we call a JT it could be an apprenticeship with some type of union labor union military training so it's not just people don't necessarily just go to the military for calling back but there could be specific maybe you want to fly drones and then help on that and maybe you're going to six packs and be mechanical or maybe nursing Start programs in the military that you can be trained for there's also then as you as you step through as far as education levels in degrees I need to go from the plumbus into certificate programs at the community college sing with the associate degrees and you get a four year colleges for your bachelor's degrees in your graduate and professional degree programs on page 33 we talked a little bit about the work on PA work stats and what this information is is the Pennsylvania Popeyes 12 industry clusters and within those industry clusters what this is meant to do is show you the top occupations currently out there as far as job the man and then I also list their annual salaries formation can be fine again on page 33 of your curriculum planning guide just on page 41 I'm going to give an example within the health Career Cluster you can see that the first part of the page is going to show you types of job in the health Career Cluster that are basically on the job training or moderate level of education so this could be personal care aides Home Health Care aides receptionist and you can see Pennsylvania it has the man name of the man who has the average salaries and then we actually break it down into Westmoreland Fayette County so it shows you the annual demand based on these careers Pennsylvania is anticipating and then the annual calories in the middle of the page that talks about those jobs tomorrow which is a little bit more training than the orange on the job training I'm some post-secondary planning and Associates of those the nursing assistants dental assistance radio. Radiology technologist so you can see average salaries in Pennsylvania the demand for next year and then Westmoreland Fayette County salaries in the man within the county and then we bring it down by those careers that need to have a bachelor's or higher so you can see the registered nurses or mental health counselors or physical therapist Pennsylvania average salaries annual demand Westmont average salaries and older man so basically why we put this into the curriculum planning guide is to show you you know life After High School what you might want to do and if you're going to go in and get a degree in spend some money what types of fish are you better likely are most likely to have a job waiting for you so that's that's why we put that information alright so the next slide as a tenth grader you're going to have your English level 2 class you're going to have a social studies which would be Western Civilization you're going to have a signs which for some maybe biology and others it may be another recommended sign such as chemistry or physics you will have my math class you are physical education and then you can see I actually have this year instead of the two periods for electives that you have the 9th grader you're actually going to have three credits or not three Prints but three periods available for electives next year of high school like I said in your blue folder we have put a hard copy of the my schedule so this will allow you to plan your day so you'll know your core classes and then you'll have an opportunity to pick either for year or semester elective courses so your course selection sheet which is you and your blue folder is customized to you so well I'll have your name at the top left and I'll have your home current her room in your top right when you go to the middle it'll actually have your courses recommended by your current English teacher social studies math and science and then a vegucation two semesters the ewctc program right now on the other ones are going to have information on there are the current 9th graders that are going to CTS provoke so that information would be in there for all other students that will not be populated but we will later in the slideshow here show you how you can register or at least sign up if you're interested in the CTC at the bottom of your course selection sheet is going to talk on the electives available how to go about selecting goes electives so there's actually going to be a Google form in your but once you flip over you your selection sheet you're going to see the electives available to you at the high school level so you can see the English elective social studies science visual art music and art electives available to and then it actually the bottom half talks more little bit about the mathematics physical education foreign language the family consumer science tech ed classes and then I'll get you the symbols by the classes star that means it's a 90-day class if there's a dollar sign that means a small fee charged for the class for supplies if there's a DE after class that means it's doing wrong with me and you could receive college credit if you sign up and pay tuition to go to those are two for those courses to be in school year and then the teacher proof classes those would be classes you would sign up for has a plus sign after that the teacher will review just to make sure that you are eligible for that class and then the very bottom issue business classes so sorry mrs. bushier you're at the bottom here but we did not forget you there are business classes as well so your business apps entrepreneurship in your account so I will schedule this student sample has an English as their Western Civilization biology Algebra 2 and a. Of labs so those would probably go with their biology and then their English and then not two days at visit so you can see the two Lads are for Pia two days and English two days the other elected this dude has chosen to Spanish so that's a fool. That's why it's great out usually a dotted line means that it's a semester course Master 1 semester 2 but because the labs and the four-year Spanish do not have a semester to it doesn't for your class that's why that's great out but in. 7 you can see the day of chosen Ceramics is a Snowman Greek and Roman is a semester course and then. 8 the shows and fitness which is a 3-day on a 6 day cycle class and we have three days of fitness and through study halls and then they also picked up some Esther out beginning Foods you cry so that's what the sample one looks like sample to Advanced English course Western Civ this student has chemistry instead of biology they have Algebra 2 and then the gyms the study the Lambs this dude into also has a. Of Spanish and then the electors are Ceramics Greek and Roman business apps in foods number three Advanced student in English Western soothe chemistry Algebra 2 you can see this student has choir in their opposite their gym and their chem Labs Spanish Ceramics Greek and Roman business that's a good schedule route to not use scheduling so using your my schedule I'm you can kind of game plan what your day might look like and remember pick more electives typically the day would hold just because as you are unfortunately aware of just because you pick electives does not mean they will schedule based on your core classes or other conflicts all right back to the current technology again we will be doing virtual tours this year I have not received the videos from the CTC but I hope to get those to you before I actually make your scheduling tools live on your Google classroom I love this video they have not come in yet but we hope to have this so the process will be you will be playing videos of the selected program that you might be interested in the end down there and then after that you will complete a Google form that actually will be used as a career affect for you if you are interested in going to the CTC after reviewing the virtual tour you can complete the ewctc application form which can be found in your Google classroom but do remember and I think I told you guys this last year but definitely pick classes as if you're going to be at the high school full day so even though you know 100% you want to go to the CTC pick classes here for your electives to fill your days of three periods of electives and then once you turn in your application for the CTC that'll be reviewed and if there is room at the CDC they will send you her they will send you a letter saying that you've been accepted and then one except acceptance letter what we will do we will actually get rid of the elective courses that you signed up for here and we will put in your CTC course now being am course or four periods of lctc these are the programs that are available at the CTC there's an automated Automotive pathway construction pathway Information Technology pathway cosmetology digital media graphic communication mechatronics culinary arts Health occupations machine tool and again if you're interested you will need to complete the application via our Google Classroom it's called ewctc application for home for within your Google class besides the videos are is also going to be a program of studies are they caught program description of the CTC so you can look through that as well just to see what the programs have to offer me what certifications you can gain down at the CTC if you do go to CTC as a tenth grader you will have an English on Mathis signs and you will have your English Labs you are science labs and your gym so those will be your 4. So you would go to the CTC warning for four periods and come back in the afternoon to take those courses this would be a sample schedule for the CTC students so like had stated earlier ewctc in the morning and then you would come back for your core classes at High School the next steps what should you be thinking about hopefully if you're looking at this you watch the video so watched it at least once or twice just so you feel comfortable with what what you need to do I'll review the curriculum planning guide as well okay and then review your course selection sheet it will have your required courses and I'll have the electric forces on the back and then use your begin to use your my schedule so I would recommend is actually going through the back side and picking your electives Circle them because we will not be taking this back you won't hold on to this so you will pick your electric I'm on the back and then write them on your course selection you from your course selection so you can put them on your my schedule and then what's going to happen is that to give you that you're actually going to go into a Google form you're going to send your electives to me electronically view via that Google for make sure that you review your electives with your parents talk about that prior to completing that course selection form down here I'll show you at the end of the your Google Classroom once we make this live you're going to see something our topic that's called scheduling for 2021-22 and then within that you're going to see the sky video I see the course selection form which we need you to complete the application for CTC if you're interested in the presentation that I'm doing right now will be there as well I'm going to be hard copy to so you do not have the necessary listen to me but you can go through and look at the slide show itself the curriculum planning guide to my schedule some other tools as far as the CTC goes there's alcohol be in your Google classroom which I guess I could get my check give me one second I'll show you that so again your course selection form remember to look at the stars or not need a class has dollar signs me answers could be a fee de means are doing wrong when you could receive calls turn it and then the teacher approval a plus sign after so I'm going to actually right now go to the gym change screen to your severe with me. Is any of this I'm actually going to prove your Google classroom so your Google classroom as you can see here freshman you're going to go to class work and then the topic is again scheduling 2021-22 so you can see all the tools we have for you the video the course selection sheet this is what you're going to click on and when click on their you're going to see at the bottom there's material the actual form itself, and this is the form you're going to complete so I'm going to go step-by-step real quick with you so I'm going to do it as a student so Robert last name your current grade so 9th grade and then after that it's going to need to ask you a cake or information if you could pick a career pathway what would that be nice to remember you can go back in the curriculum planning guide and look through pages 20 trigger starts on 20 but I'm going to say maybe have an interest in business and is there second one you do not have to  so like the second one but I'm going to say oh yeah maybe human services so those are the two if you could pick your career right now what would it be cut so because I first interest was business I'm going to say it and then it says if you had to pack a second career you don't have to but if you would I'm going to say a school counselor school counselor what types of post-secondary schooling or training would I need I know for both of those types of careers I would need at least a four-year and I know I want to go to college so I'm going to check that next alright so the next part is where you're going to actually pick you or elective courses do you understand the selection process for choosing electives basically that's above so you're going to do what you're going to go through and choose your electives if you had any time till you need to go back to another area you're going to hit the back button and to go forward to going to hit next I'm going to say yes I understand how to do it like this all right do I plan to attend to ewctc next year no I do not so I know and now I get into the English area so I can actually besides my regular ink courses I can pick elective courses are there any knowing that I have three periods in the day are there any elective courses that I want to take you needing Shield or The English Department I'm going to say you know what I'm not a 9th grader even though I want to do college writing on what off and do that maybe my 11th and 12th grade year but I do you know I have heard that I do like creaking Rheumatology to sound like an interesting class is there a special please class criminology psychology right now there's nothing available for 10th graders sonus like 9 science is there any additional like this because I'm in the business and Human Services there are no signs right now active life besides Mike or that I want staffs are statistics and computer science not interested lifeguarding Sports officiating weight training I might be interested in advance so I like to do weight training like to do that one so there's two classes I pick I am going to do another level of Spain so level 3 Spanish I'm interested in right now looks like maybe two of my periods are filled I took accounting won last year I'm going to do a counting to this year and next now I have three periods filled I didn't get an art class I have three periods filled but I might not get that one gym class so you know what I'm going to sign up for Ceramics try to get in art class not interested at this time in music would like to maybe take one of those you know what I'm going to try beginning Foods because I might have a and it might not fill up some choose that one currently not interested in tech ed Hager Horticulture thought about that but right now I just don't think I'm not going to sign up for an EIN courses just so now it's going to ask me about submitting my form make sure I've correctly identified and selected bcourses okay if I didn't recognize go back and hip back button you know what I'm going to hit the back button because I think I want to change one thing when you get back back I don't want beginning Foods I decide I don't want that someone to select next I do want to maybe take and I do want that but I do want to take Woodshop classes good still no egg okay I feel like I've submitted I will hit submit right now it's asking in order to file submit we have to review with parent I'm going to make a note here that I have British viewed Aller actually yesterday so are you done with him yesterday and I think already submitting once I submit this form I cannot go back and change it any changes that I need to do after submitting this form will need to be either email tennis tourney Wilson or mrs. Freeman you will get a confirmation view your email but the courses were you selected and then we do plan on app maybe a week or two after we have all these sheets I'm we will eat mail home a confirmation to your parents if they see this for me that there's any changes at that time you can call your parents and I'm so there are some backups if you did not if you maybe you made a mistake or yellow a bit nervous about taking some classes don't worry there are backup plans that we can do to change in the course of the evening Pick on here so I'm going to submit and my form is gone so now I'm going to go back and finish the slide presentation here so I'm going to stop resenting my Google form and I'm going to go back to my slides one last time here so we completed the form and then it's this important date so once you get all your information hopefully this coming week the last week in February hear you going to review your course selections got any questions about your core classes you will talk to your current teacher if you have any questions about electives you can talk to your elective teachers or you can send me an email but we want to have these course selections forms back to us by March 5th so that would be the first full week in March we want that information back and if we do not receive those back will be contacting your email or BNC or clash of okay so that is my last line I am officially finished presenting to you so you will be receiving your blue folder here shortly which in the blue before they'll be directions on how to get to your Google classroom and I will be instructions for you on how to do the schedule for this year but if you do have any questions just let us know either email myself or email mrs. Freeman substitute which is Miss  is at Dairy Rd a St. Us so that would be her email class of 2024 you ready to go from freshman to sophomore year I don't believe it or not it will be here before we know.
