hello again class of 2025 it's mr. Abelson at the high school what I'm going to do in this videos I'm actually going to show you how to use you or yellow folders and I'm going to share with you the entire scheduling process so hopefully right now you can see I'm back to my slide presentation if you remember from the previous video on some important things not leaving this presentation but I'm going to share with you the curriculum planning what you getting is available to you via the Google classroom and again everything in this curriculum planning guide will show you what courses we have to offer how to pick courses a lot of information here I hope I'm not making anyone sick by flying through this, but what I wanted to get to you can see my recommendations are courses by grade level and then there's a worksheet for you actually completely out doesn't have to be turned in but you can complete this and it shows you what you need going into tonight grade and then your course description start on page 56 and selfish so this is our Agriculture and Horticulture program you can see the courses available to 9th graders and then it actually when you scroll down a little bit further I'll middle actually talk about the course for you sick the course name number how many credits and then this is the description of the core so we have that for every course at the high school you can reach through the curriculum planning guide with your parents and in health plan you know for your your future here at the high school I'm also within this yellow folder is what we use called the course selection sheet okay you can see it here here's a sample, and I examples within the website or within our presentation here that you will see a little bit bigger and we're also going to talk about elective courses but the whole process rescheduling is complete the selection form course selection form at your counselors worry you that and then we will take that back and we will go into our student information system it will actually build you a schedule and then in May of this year play some point we will distribute your schedules and fix any conflicts of their maybe and then we should have a move up Day last year we kind of because of the pandemic we didn't have a walk through the high school kind of did it remotely play now that we are kind of back to school and we should on the last day of school hopefully be able to have them move up day ok next on the slide I just want to talk about the Days Inn. It's much similar to what you have at Middle School to high school with the same semesters are 90-day classes and you'll see that on your course selection sheet indicated by a star or an asterisk after of course we have for your classes which are 180 days those are one credit we do goodnight. Day we have a 6 day cycle we do have a midday homeroom right after 4th. And then we have to lunch. We have a lunch blnc so be students go to homeroom the negative 5th. After V. They going to lunch and then lunch. See students they go from 4. Homeroom this. 6. Then they go to see lunch so lunches are not by grade level are my or 6. Teacher So based on what that teacher eats that's what your watches career Pathways if you remember from the first video that I showed you what you look up at the top right-hand corner within a slide patient is going to be shared with you. You will have access to this presentation the curriculum planning guide and the page numbers are on the top right corner one thing we do here at the high school. We talked a lot about career Pathways and I'm sure you know I know mrs. Daytona this year with you career Pathways I may be taking some interest inventories to see where your interests are and where that relates to a certain pathway but five pathways are identified at the high school arts and Communications business finance and information technology engineering and Industrial technology Human Services in science and health monalee when you're looking at Pages Pages were looking at Pages 20 through 32 you're going to learn about the types of Pathways but you're also going to learn about what types of classes we have here at the high school to get can help you with that certain pathway so that those are things that you can read in your curriculum at actually let me go back to the curriculum planning guide and see if I can find Pages here we are pages 20 here we talked a little bit the pathways so you can see. Communications pathway can I get you some information how you can go through with a paper and pencil and kind of sign or Circle are you interested in certain things can you do do you enjoy the more circles you have somewhere that means that's why the pathway for you, but also what we share with you within the Arts and Communications pathway jobs in a painting this job some types of Education you need for these types of jobs you need on-the-job training for the middle how much is 1 or 3 years of schooling our technical schools or certifications these are the types of jobs and then four years or more of college or training I could get you these types of careers and then within that pathway we list the core classes up here that you would take it within that pathway and then we also share with you the electives that we offer by grade level the course is so if you feel like you're in the Arts and Communications pathway these are they if you could choose at the high school and we do that for the five pathway so here's business and the careers and the interests of both and then down here we are sharing with you the core an elective courses we offer here at the high school for business we do the same for engineering so you can see and go through what courses we have here with that would help you build a foundation in engineering and then we have Human Services and you can see the courses and then the last one is our science and health which you can see the courses we offer all right so that is the 31 planning guide on section of that back to my presentation page 22 if I would go back to you the curriculum planning guy that talks about types of Education not everyone has to go to free college to find their line of work or for their line of work but they're everyone will have to be trained at some some form or fashion so you can see what kind of stuff through the process of a minimal type of training would be OJT on-the-job training next to our printer ships that some employers may have you go through obviously there's no electric military training so you can enroll or enlist into the military get your training that way whether that be temperature in combat or you could be trained with in new fixing tanks or or running drones or I'm leaving you do medical so there's different types of training that you do the diploma and certificate program associate degree programs bachelor degree programs and of course I want some of the highest levels of Education you can see can receive our graduate professional degrees and that can be found on page 22 of our curriculum I'm we also shared within our curriculum planning guide on page 33 something that we started to do last year as a PA Works stats and what that is is information provided to us by the Pennsylvania Workforce in what they did is they list 12 industry clusters and from there they tell us information as far as annual wages by I'm cluster and Curry and then do the man or what the employment projections will be through the year 2026 I'm so when I go to the next slide in what we can have this is the health career again this is final page 41 there are multiple clusters but within the health career you can see with entry-level we're on the job type of training short or moderate term these are types of careers that are talk right now in Westmoreland Fayette County in Pennsylvania so there's a personal care aides Home Health Care aides you can see the average salary by Pennsylvania and then the average salaries and also the demands this number is the number of employees annually that they expect in these fields so personal personal care aides on Pennsylvania annual demand is 15000 and the demand with in Westmoreland Fayette County is 413 people then did not same page but I kind of cut it out for you tomorrow these are a little bit longer training some more post-secondary associate degrees but nursing assistants with in the health field medical since dental assistance you can see the average salaries in Pennsylvania that the man a yearly the average salary in Westmoreland and Fayette counties and the annual demand yearly and then at the bottom of that page 41 health career you can see these types of careers require a bachelor's degree or higher so registered nurse on Mental Health Counselors physical therapist nurse practitioners those are the top six jobs Pennsylvania in Westmoreland Fayette County you can see the average salaries for those careers the annual Demand on Pennsylvania in the end of the van at the Westmoreland County Fayette County again please look through that we kind of provide this information to you so you and your family can go through and kind of decide on careers may be based on you know what the supply and demand may be as far as you know if you want if you go you want to make sure that you're going to be trying in a career where there is some some hope of finding a job in the near future so that's why we put that information in there courses for 9th grade so these are the what is the required English social studies science math and again back to the yellow folder and your tour selection sheet I'm going to go through and actually show you what you're going to see that there is a list of required courses your teachers have already made recommendations for your English social studies science and math every student will have two semesters of physical education I will have thee to Career education courses and then roughly students will have periods for elective courses holiday may look within your for how we've actually provided one of these for you so you can write on it but it's holiday looks this is what your schedule May look like no not every student is going to have an English first period history second. But this is just to show you how many periods in a day now if you will be filled so every student have an English. History science. Math. Homeroom and then this PE stands for physical education studies stands for study hall and laughs so depending on the courses you have everyone will have the two days on a 6 day cycle off but depending some classes have labs they could be placed in here opposite your visit and then you can see students will have the correct bration class in the the discovery class with mrs. Prado and Miss Smeltzer and then to elective periods cry so we'll go through a little bit more of what that could look like for each student that I wanted to show you we did put that in your yellow folder to help you plan your day when you look at the first part of your course selection sheet your sheet will have your last name first name and then they'll be directions at the top and we're referring back to the curriculum planning guide that shows your recommended course sequence Midway through your course selection sheet you're going to see the required courses this is your English social studies math signs physical education Career Education so he should be populated based on what your recommended for you so everyone is going to have their English class recommendation their history Math Science and then you're two semesters of Jim and the two semesters of education class then we're going to talk about elective courses what you're going to get a little bit more but using electives can be be done by looking at the back of your course selection sheet and can you put that over you can see that it is broken down by Department's okay and here is what the back of your course selection sheet would look like when you're looking at the sheet keep in mind that the star is semester versus the dollar sign on there could be fees charged for that class maybe some some cooking fees or would if your Woodshop or more things like that and then some classes will need a teacher approval as well so the the courses for you as a 9th grader so English has some electives poetry journalism Greek and Roman mythology yearbook phys-ed even has some electives there's an advanced Dance Fitness weather your current level one language looking to do a level 2 or if you're not in a level one yet and you want to do a line but next year you can do that by circling in and putting the language into your curriculum planning course cheat family consumer science we have beginning Foods sewing fashion design in interior design and then in tech ed we have cabs architecture photography video game welding Woods each other robotics Mitchell construction and then we go down one more halfway or at the bottom of the page you see business there's business apps in accounting or Visual Arts with mr. Sabo you can see those classes music choir Band guitar this is the Telemundo are taken from the previous slide and then obviously we have our ad Court program which our full-year class is horticulture which is more plans and the agriculture which is more working with the animals and we even have some egg with mechanics if you like to work with animals but you also play regular like to work on Farm Equipment that's in there as well so I know that's a lot of information and I'm actually going to step you through the give me a second alright so this is a sample my schedule so this student has English first. American history second. science their math you can see they have two periods of Jim two periods of the lab which goes probably with either their science or their math and then their correct spiration the dotted line semesters do semester 1 they occur expiration semester 2 they have the community Communications in Discovery and then this Dune actually chose Spanish a full-year class so that would take out. 7 that's great I'll because it's a for your class of that would go to the whole year through and then unfortunately this dude does not have any electives but I just wanted to show you this lie because students can have study hall at the high school while we don't recommend you doing study halls are saying I want to have these study also I'm not going to pick electives we recommend you choosing as many electives as you can to fill your day and then if you feel based on your schedule. That's too much we can always take those elective out and put in a study home definitely schedule of classes for your school day sample slide to pretty much the same format English History signs math their physical education study hall labs for expiration and education. 7 Spanish for year but this dude actually has chosen some electives they have a semester of Ceramics and a semester selling so this is a pretty full strong schedule and then sample number three again English history science math Labs crisp racing student again has a foreign language but eight. They have choir which is three days a week and I have been 3 days a week so you can see how you could fit that in there as well as elective courses schedule number for English History this Dune actually has a bio so we have a bio lab in their Algebra 2 in the reason we showed that at this dude was recommended to double I'm so my doubling they are actually having geometry here 8 p.m. so when you look at one of their electives because they are lack of electing to Dublin that would be a geometry and then they can have their their Spanish. 7 so this would be a fool full schedule just wanted to again we have those samples and you can look at those on your own time as well because we are again sharing this PowerPoint presentation with you study hall students can have no more than 10 study halls for a week so how that's calculate as you can see I have here in yellow that 6 6 day cycle you have one two three four five six of us a full. Of study hall is at 6 1/6 day cycle and then I'll sit there Jim they have one two three four so that way the maximum number of studying as a student can have so definitely pick elective courses like I said if if we have too many electives in there and you feel like your schedule is too full we can always remove stud Removal Act get enough classes in there. I'm also we wanted to talk very high school works with the Career & Technology Center the Eastern Westmoreland career and Technology Center and students have the offer change it to be a free book program and how the program works his students would be assigned up to go to the CTC in the morning and then when they come back they actually have their for core classes their math science studies in English if you are interested what happens is we're going to be actually posting videos on your Google Classroom to show you these different programs down at the CTC if you're interested in any of the programs we do Automotive in there's two Pathways there's a pathway of automotive automotive technology collision repair a plumbing HKC information technology pathway has Computer Engineering and cyber-security there's cosmetology digital media technology graphic Communications mechatronics engineering culinary arts Health occupations machine tool mom and Welding if you are interested in being looked at or considered for a program you will have to complete the ewctc provoked pre-vocational application form which again is on your Google Classroom so if you're interested in that complete one of those forms CTC will look at your grades to look at your attendance in your discipline and based on that and if they have enough seats after the Latrobe cranberry upperclassmen schedule if there is room they will be contacting us and letting you know that there is an opportunity for you to get out there as a 9th grader if you'd like to do that this is I just put this on here because are we do it did include DCTC slideshow presentation to you so you can review that with your parent night if you would like to do that and then again I kind of walk you through that but this would be your sample slot if you did go to the TTC as a 9th grader we do have a speaking of CTC of ninth-graders we do have 10 spot so even though say we have 20 students complete the application there may only be 10 spots given to us so if that's the case we would review the two applications again look at the your your GPS or your your your grade point averages your attendance in your discipline if you have any kind of determine whether you would receive one FaceTime pain spot at the CTC go back to that this is what your day would look like. 1 through 4 would be at the CTC you would come back and do your English your social studies or science and math your lunch could be either be your C so you need to have lunch after. 5 or after. all right so next steps when I would recommend is within your Google Classroom watch the videos again with maybe your parents and the guy there's going to be multiple videos for you to watch review the curriculum planning guy I'm going to go back to that real quick but the curriculum planning guide is 100 in in is it less every course that we have in here when I go down a little bit further and again hopefully not making anyone sick but if you look at our business department you can see business at 1 which is one class available 9th graders thinking of some other classes here I think accounting is maybe up top here you look so if you like accounting 1 for 9th graders it's in the business it's off medical by Department you can read up on accounting so every course that we have at the high school is in this book kind of good to another elective C-section English family consumer science you can see us greater beginning Foods Fashion Design interior design sewing I'm so you can go down through and read about what is beginning foods do up anyways does that cross interest me sewing fashion design so I can that everything that you want to know about the high school isn't here not only based on courses but then also based on graduation requirements so definitely review that Kirkland planning guide review your choices for your course selection sheet all right let's go back to this page right here your English Math Science Social Studies if you have any concerns about those recommendations you need to speak to your current teachers and then what's after looking to the creek and planning guide look at elective courses see which courses you might want to do fill out the my schedule sheet in the my schedule sheet I'm showing it over here we can look at my camera I guess I should be she ain't here so here is your my schedule sheet kind of plan your day out accordingly and then review this with your parents and then what you're going to do is you're going to actually complete the course selection form which I'm going to show it to you here in just a second course selection form by you can complete this by going to your Google classroom alright so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to actually go give me one second to stop sharing this want to go and start to share your your Google Classroom to give me one second Pickens coming up so you should Nell be able to see your your Google Classroom so when you what your homepage is going to have the 2025 consoling office I'll mean I'm I'm sure you're familiar with how to get to to interact with you in your Google classroom but the important thing is if you get a class work here this is the hello class of 2025 this is the first video that I shared with you about the curriculum planning guy introductions to myself what we do here at the high school and then the second video scheduling for the first time which we are and this is I actually the current view right now so those two videos are on their your course selection sheet so there's forms that you need to complete your course selection form needs completed for your electives and then if you're thinking of going to the Career & Technology Center Eliza Knight cater to participate and provoke you need to fill out the application and that is here as well and then we have additional tools so this whole presentation I'm just the slideshow. copy the visual horror video presentation that's up above but if you just want to look at the slides and wine walk through those that presentation is here you can see that right here the curriculum planning guide a link to that is here so there's the link to that and my schedule which we had talked about why is here so you have a copy of that we're also going to give you a hard copy in your yellow four let's see what else what does so again that's on the back of your sheet but we've provided that that's on the back of your of course selection sheet but we did provide that to you digitally and then the last is the Amitabh CTC presentation so that's a slideshow of the ewctc cell lot of information for YouTube to go through we will be in your or somehow be communicating with you whether that's in classrooms not individually but if you have any questions please let us know but we're not going to just throw all this information at you and then just so you know get it done in and and in Good Luck we're actually going to know Mr moxam chop mrs. Tate and they're going to see and then we're available as well and will be able to assist you through this process as well alright so this will be earlier in the presentation is completing that course selection form so you would here you would click here and I'm hoping but you can see that I'm not sure I can see what you're saying so what I'm going to do is I'm going to stop resenting I'm going to present a new window please mad because I want you to be able to see what I'm seeing here to give me one second and I think try something here so I'm not being so I can see you but you shouldn't you're seeing this this is the course selection sheet what you would do once you know which electives you want to take you're actually going to come through and you're going to put your name so I'm going to put I need Robert last name and then I would hit next and then when it's going to ask you here if we're good we need some Career Information about you so I can you look through the program has or the curriculum planning guide think about this isn't set in stone the justice but we're just trying to gain some information about you so what types of Pathways have you thought are your are your top so maybe mine would be Human Services and then when I scroll down so do you have a second one yeah I'm cool so kind of interested in business so that's right to if you could pick a career right now what would you be so we have some examples for you but if you thought about careers doesn't so I'm going to put School counselor now if you had to pick a cigarette or second career maybe I'm going to type because I talked up there about being business I'm going to be like Compton there's my two career what is your post secondary plan will knowing that both of those require at least a four-year degree I'm going to say I'm thinking of going to college After High School next alright snow talk about our electives make sure you would correctly identify your electives and what I mean by that is you look at this sheet and you kind of see why now I need two periods of electives and then I've looked at this sheet consider okay which electives do I want to do so I kind of saw cool. That all together and then I'm going to use this form to help me do the scheduling process here so I'm going to say yes I kind of read through that and I do know what the scheduling process is I do understand and yes that'll let me proceed if you say you don't understand and you hitting out it's going to take you back to the beginning so until you fully understand that and maybe if you have questions I'll talk to mr. Martin chalk talk to mrs. Beethoven or talk to myself but in order to get next part of square scheduling electives that you have to have a yes highlighted act so then it's going to walk you through this she so did you have any circles in English I did not have any circles in English song SAA not interested in English classes at this time I do have Mike or are you interested in any physical education I have my two gyms I'm not interested in any anymore gyms at this time all right make a selection for language I do not have an interest but if you are looking at maybe doing a second-year he would hit this looking at doing a first-year actually that is for sure if you're looking in the first year that would be Spanish one if you're looking at the second year that be Spanish to and if you have no interest you could do next business well this is what I'm really thinking I want to do Life After High School so to get a little bit more knowledge in a, you know what I'm going to sign up for an economy-class knowing that that's a full year because there is not a star 90 day class or semester course this is a four-year so I'm actually going to select next in to do a count so I know one. Is filled with accounting you know what I like to do I like drawing so you know what I'm going to sign up for drawing so there's a p read and a half and let's see this time I'm not interested in choir or learning how to play guitar you know what I do like to cook I'm going to do beginning Foods all right you know what I do have some so that's really I have two periods of electors I chose accounting and I chose beginning foods and drawing so there's my day is filled but Mr Nielsen did tell me that the scheduling process can be tricky I don't always get every elected that it wants someone to pick a couple other electives I might be interested alright so another thing I might be is Robotics and photography choose those two so that could give me some extras I don't want to do too many extras because the computer won't know what the schedule but I should do at least probably one or two elective courses so I did do that at this time I am not interested in Horticulture or the agriculture but that does sound very interesting all right side is my elective now tells me you make sure you correctly submitted if you would like to make any changes in your current form prior to submission use the back arrow key okay that's right here it's not an Uber to the next you know what I'm going to go back and I'm going to look at I'm going to get rid of Photography and I'm actually going to take a wood class now I feel like that's better still no no I don't want to take that can I have kind of reviewed I'm good I understand I'm going to submit yes I'm good that's what I want you to ICS my electives all right so now I just got to confirm cuz typically in a career prior to covid-19 paper and parents would sign at the bottom of this form while because we're not trying if we're trying to get away from having papers are actually going to just have you your parents name in and hopefully verify that you did speak to your parents about this whole process so I'm going to put in dad that was you that would be your father's or your mother's first name and I what's my last name Cecil in the date today's date is the 17th so I just like that and then again I ain't going to hit so that's what the what the stars is when I hit submit this is going to go to the school concert and show you the elective courses that students or that you would be interested in so if there's any any thought about maybe off all I want to go back change one more hit the back button if you're good to submit you hit the submit button and it has been submitted I cannot complete this form again if I would say two days later you know what I want to get out of that robotics I want to take another art class I want to take Ceramics what you do is you email myself or mrs. Freeman or Mrs  or talk to Mrs tatone and she can relay that information. But anyway someone has to let us know that that's a lot horses that you want to just maybe make one change to your elective courses or something so that's what happened alright so let me close that window and I'm going to stop pretending that screen I'm going to try to get back to you I want to hear give me a second you'll be back to my PowerPoint presentation so what kind of walk you through let's see so I want to look at the next slide on we walked you through that watch it through that an important dates 00 what is information we are going to hopefully prevent all this information to you the week of I believe it's the 22nd next week the 22nd so I'm giving you this presentation you should have this actual presentation in a couple days and we should give you or we are giving you roughly a week and a few days to complete your of course selection and basically what you're doing by completing her course selection York or Cobb classes are good those are your teachers recommendations if you have questions you would see your teacher and then what the other part of that course selection form is is what we need for is your elective courses do not be scared don't worry if you make a mistake we will find a way we will solve solve that mistake, try to do your best try to be responsible read through this information more still working on a plan for myself and in the other counselors to to come in in in in Navy speak with you and answer questions but we wanted to try to get as much information to you that you could be looking at can evening study hall on the weekend I'm trying to get a lot of information to you so you know what the scheduling process is all about cuz typically we do this in one presentation 40 minutes with mrs. mr. moxey's but hopefully by this video we can get a lot of that information tonight also by having a Google Classroom you can have some.
